At New York Makers, March is one of our favorite months. We get to celebrate Women’s History month, which holds a special place in the hearts of this woman owned and run company (which, incidentally, carries over 65% women owned businesses in our marketplace as well). We also get tantalizing tastes of 60 degree days (even if they are followed by days full of freezing rain)!

Over the deep hibernation of this winter, we were honored to cover stories about trailblazing women like Edmonia Lewis, who is finally receiving posthumous recognition due to the help of local historians. We also got to talk to the contemporary standard bearers in our own backyard who founded Made X Hudson with the mission “to create fashion that is ethically made and good for the planet” right here in the Hudson Valley. We’ve stayed busy stocking our online marketplace with new products that celebrate the blooms of Springs with items like therapeutic CBD neck rollers and gorgeous paper florals- forever picture perfect.

Since March has already brought us a snowstorm and a summer day, we are trying to lean into just how unpredictable the weather can be this time of year. We also aim to take this as a larger lesson for how to embrace how unpredictable the last 2 years have been. Despite all the devastating news on a world stage, we are forging ahead and embracing this change of season with hope and a renewed sense of community as mask mandates lift and we are able to get outside and gather for in person events again.

We will be donating a portion of our sales this season to relief efforts in Ukraine via Sunflowers of Peace, where sunflowers have taken root as a symbol of hope and resistance. As we plan for summer and its bounty of blooms, we are excited to plant a  sunflower for every donation made and hope to fill our field.

Looking ahead, stay tuned for newsletters full of stories and resources delivered monthly to your inbox, in person pop-ups, and new products from around our beautiful state. If you have anything you’d like to see added to the shop, drop a line in the comments below!
